Treasury shares are shares that a company or subsidiaries that it controls own in the company after buying these shares either for the purpose of stabilising the share price (i.e. for listed companies (see listed security), or of being granted to employees (see employee shareholders), i.e. as part of a stock option plan (see also ESOP), or simply because they were considered at a given moment to be a good investment.
