Definition for : Float

In relation to a listed company, the "float" refers to the Shares which are not held by long-term strategic Investors (E.g. founding family Investors and strategic industrial partners), but are available for trading. The float (expressed as percentage of total Shares) is a key determinant of a Share liquidity.
