Definition for : Conflict of interest

Designates a situation where an individual or a company simultaneously represents several interests which can not be conciliated (are materially diverging, or even are diametrally opposite). For example, a law firm may be defending Party A in a legal dispute and is now asked to defend Party B in a dispute with Party A.
