Definition of Negative equity - Finance dictionary

Negative equity

Designates a situation where the value of the assets is lower than that of the liabilities. This can happen in relation to a person having acquired a real estate property at or close to the top of the market, and having leveraged itself aggressively. It can also be said of a company facing liquidation.
